About

Mary Hamawy, L.Ac., Dipl.OM

Mary K. Hamawy came to Chinese Medicine through her own journey of fertility and the birth of her daughter.  She went on to graduate from the prestigious Pacific College of Oriental Medicine, completing approximately 1000 clinical hours and over 2500 didactic hours of training.

Mentored by medical experts from China, Taiwan, Europe and the Americas, Mary is skilled in all primary modalities of Chinese Medicine: acupuncture, moxibustion, herbal formulas, cupping, gua sha, tui na, and qi gong.

Her treatment areas of interest are:

  • women's health
  • joint and spinal pain relief
  • stress and anxiety managment
  • voice / vocal impairment issues
  • geriatrics
  • pediatrics

Her externship at NYU Lutheran Hospital's Department of Labor & Delivery has given her additional insight as to how Chinese medicine can benefit expectant and new mothers.  She has a particular passion for post-partum care, and the need to support the health of the whole family by caring for mothers first.

Prior to studying Chinese Medicine, Mary received a B.A. from Amherst College and a Ph.D. from Princeton University in Musicology.  She remains interested in traditions of resonance and how they might be used to treat chronic illness.  She is licensed in acupuncture by the State of New York and is recognized as a Diplomate of Oriental Medicine by NCCAOM.

Mary lives with her family in Park Slope, Brooklyn.
