Your First Visit

When you arrive for your first acupuncture appointment we will ask you to complete a comprehensive intake form. The acupuncture intake form asks many questions about your current state of health, past illnesses, and family history. These questions are important because the holistic approach of Oriental medicine takes everything into account. Your current symptoms may not seem related to past health issues, but our bodies are complex landscapes and everything that happens to them leaves its mark.

After reviewing your intake form, we will discuss your condition, and examine your pulse and tongue, which are two of the basic diagnostic methods of Oriental medicine. The acupuncture points we choose will depend on your condition, but you can expect approximately 12 needles (more for orthopedic issues). Once the needles are inserted, you will be asked to rest for 15-20 minutes with the needles in place. Depending on your condition, your treatment may last longer. Many people find acupuncture treatment deeply relaxing, and it is not uncommon for patients to fall asleep during this time.

Please remember to:

* make sure you have eaten a light snack and had water 2 to 1 hours before your treatment.  It's important you have the fuel to make the most of your treatment.  Eating too close to the appointment however, might lead to some stomach upset.  The best option is about 1.5hrs beforehand.

*wear or bring a change of comfortable, loose fitting clothing.  While there are acupuncture points all over the body, the most common points used are located between from just above the knees to the toes, and from just above the elbows to the hands.  There are also some on the belly and back as well.   Clothing should allow comfortable access to these areas.

*check your emails in advance of your appointment for the link to fill out your forms before your appointment.   With everything completed in advance, it means more time for your treatment!
